The purpose of the workshop is to provide a select group of high school students an intense experience that teaches them more about college life and a career in media. The workshop emphasizes multimedia reporting, writing, editing, graphics, photography, production, and basic communication skills that they put into practice by producing the MJP Journal (click on photos above to go to websites).

The workshop is hands-on which includes a professional mentor for each student. The students publish a newspaper under the direction of faculty and visiting professionals. Students produce news stories, editorials, photos, columns, reviews and feature packages that they later re-purpose for online and broadcast.

ASPA keeps track of the graduating classes and hosts a reunion dinner each January for the previous year's graduating class.

The program is open to students living in any state and is free for any student admitted. This includes meals, housing, field trips, as well as top-notch instruction by media professionals. Transportation to and from Tuscaloosa is the student's responsibility.

Congratulations to the MJW Class of 2015!
